EnviroMysteries

August 12, 2007

Breaking The Mold,” part of a film series called EnviroMysteries, has been released for showing nationwide in schools and on public television. It was produced for Maryland Public Television and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. The film follows the story of a high school girl who becomes ill as a result of living in a house with unhealthy air quality due to mold.

The toxic fungus Stachybotrys chartarum grows especially well on water-damaged sheet rock.

The film’s producer, Joshua Seftel, requested and received permission to use the Health & Energy Company’s Internet site during the filming.

Reducing Mold Damage to Your Health and Possessions

Mold, a type of fungi, can damage your health and your possessions.

A 1999 Mayo Clinic study pegged nearly all the chronic sinus infections afflicting 37 million Americans to molds. See http://www.mayo.edu/proceedings/1999/7409a1.pdf

Recent studies have suggested that molds may be a major factor in the rapid rise of asthma during the past 20 years.

Mold and its spores can trigger allergic reactions, irritant effects, and opportunistic infections.

Exposure to some kinds of mold, and the volatile organic compounds they produce, can weaken your immune system and make you more vulnerable to a wide variety of health problems.

Mold typically thrives on paper, drywall, wood, and any other organic material exposed to a relative humidity above 60% long enough to raise its moisture content above 10%.

I hope the movie and information on our Internet site will help you prevent mold damage to your health and possessions.
